Turbo Install Tips

  • Always change oil when replacing turbos
  • Change air filters
  • Check after treatment system for damage or clogs, blockages in after treatment & exhaust may lead to excessive back pressure which can lead to turbo seal damage & oil leaks.
  • Pressure test charge air cooler
  • Check CAC piping, hoses, & clamps for damage
  • Check turbo oil lines for damage, leaks, & blockage. Insufficient oil flow can lead to overheating & damage to turbo.
  • Check oil for contamination: Dirt, metal shavings, or other contaminants can cause excessive wear & damage to turbo internal components.
  • Inspect for excessive carbon build up: carbon deposits can break off & cause turbo damage.
  • Make any other engine repairs prior to turbo installation
  • Avoid hot shutdowns, frequently shutting the engine down while hot can cause turbo to overheat & damage bearings.
  • Excessive engine wear, high temps & speeds can lead to premature turbo failure, responsiveness issues, potential loss of power, or inability to regenerate
  • Before replacing turbo, it’s imperative to diagnose the underlying cause of the failure to ensure the issue is resolved & prevent future failures or problems.
